Friday 13 And The Most Widespread Superstition
The sixth day of the week and the number 13 both have foreboding reputations said to date from ancient times; their inevitable conjunction from one to three times a year portends more misfortune than some credulous minds can bear.
Folklorists say it's probably the most widespread superstition in America and the UK (and no doubt in other parts of the world, as well) - some people won't go to work on Friday the 13th; some won't eat in restaurants; many wouldn't think of setting a wedding on the date or celebrating of any kind.
The fear of Friday the 13th is called "paraskevidekatriaphobia".
Friday the 13th is said to be the most unlucky date. The modern reason for this is said to come from Friday October 13th, 1307. On this date, the Pope of the church in Rome in conjunction with the King of France, carried out a secret death warrant against "the Knights Templar". The Templars were terminated as heretics, never again to hold the power that they had held for so long. Their Grand Master, Jacques DeMolay, was arrested and before he was killed, was tortured and crucified.

As an aside... I love it!!!
